Who doesn't miss Cheers? George Wendt [Norm of Cheers fame] stars as Mr. Boring Neighbour Next Door who kind of wants to melt all your skin off and arrange your bones in overly tacky outfits. Sweet.
As slow moving as this movie creeped along at times, and with terrible supporting actors, I got quite a few laughs out of it anyway. I kind of need a new set of grandparents, so I may take a few pointers , too. Educational and entertaining? Win-win!
This is one of those movies where I can't really tell you jack all without spoiling the whole thing. Not that I don't already drop enough spoilers almost daily, but this one I'll leave you in the dark about. Go rent it, prepare yourself for a few slow moving bits, but overall it's fairly decent.
Wendt carries the whole movie, so if you don't find him entertaining, then you shouldn't rush out to pick it up. The Masters of Horror series has been full of hits and misses, so for some I'm sure this goes on the misses pile, but I enjoyed it. And well, I'm all about force feeding you my opiniong, ha.
Recommended.

I thought you'd like this one. :)
I thought Wendt was great here, and the scenes with his "family"--both when he was "preparing" them and when he was interacting with them--were gooey and icky and wonderful. And even though I saw the twist coming, I still dug it a lot. Plus some of the stuff--especially with his "daughter"--I found genuinely disturbing.
Much better stuff from Landis than Deer Woman, his goofy entry from the first series. But that one had a super-hot naked Native American animal spirit, so I guess it evens out.
I really liked this one, I actually popped it in again this morning at work. Well worth the second viewing and I think I even got more laughs out of it the second time around. The scenes with his daughter were the best. The ones with his 'wife' kind of annoyed the hell out of me, only cause the women cast was horrid. I'd personally toss her down a flight of stairs if I was married to her. Nag, nag, nag.
I haven't seen Deer Woman yet, but it's in my queue, so soon, I think. :)
I'll be interested to read what you think of Deer Woman. It's more a straight-up comedy than comedy/horror--more yuks and less "YUCK!" than Family. Enjoyable at a certain level, but less a "total package" than Family.
