According to the box, this little number is based on the short story of the same name by H.P Lovecraft. I really don't see how, but I guess not many directors can bring story to film and make it a success.
I don't even really know how to give you a rundown on this release. The first 40 minutes or so are all over the place. Shortly you come to realize the main setting is an Asylum filled with crazy patients and even more crazy Doctors and an intern wearing a terrible dollar store wig. There is no 'good guy' or 'bad guy', it's all just a bunch of inbred hillbillies, some just happen to be wearing white coats and have the upper hand in the whack job experiments happening.
Some parts are so over the top you can't help but laugh, while other parts are too out there and confusing it's hard to follow [or care to make the effort]. I'm sure there is a legion of fans, simply due to the Lovecraft connection. But if someone can point out a good reason to give this another viewing [the bad boob job doesn't count, wasn't worth seeing the first time around] then I will pop it back in.
The ending has some good laughs, but not worth picking up... no matter how cheap the cost.
Not recommended.

I was seriously bummed by the first season of MoH... after all the hype and aniticaption a new horror series, especially with all of the great directors going at it no holds barred I couldn't wait. But about halfway through that season we began calling it MoH (for MEDIOCRE 'OL HACKS.) I didn't even bother with season two though I heard it did get a little better than the first. I mean hell, one episode of Dexter contained more thrills and chills than a handful of MoH episodes.
Hello.
I was wondering if you're in any interest to see Sweeney Todd.
I saw it 2 days ago...I personally enjoyed it except for the ending which made me incredibly sad.
It gets really bloody in the middle of the movie.
But from what I can see from your reviews of movies...I don't think you'll fancy it much.
:-)
Oh! And when are you going to update your food blog?!
One more thing...the picture for your profile, what artists is that? I really like the style of it (being an artist myself).
Bravo to you for actually sitting through all of this one. I rented it months ago and could only get through about 20 minutes. I was tempted not to return it to Blockbuster, so nobody could make the same mistake I did by renting it. That didn't happen though. Why should I be the only one to suffer, right? Ha.
Karswell - With the whole MoH idea, there was room for something huge. But maybe even the big boys in the industry can't just pull awesome releases out of their asses. Most great directors have a few stinkers laying around, so why not release another onto the world via MoH, I guess? I'm not sure if they are doing a season 3, but man- I really hope they live up to something great.
- Rage and Love, I've yet to see Sweeny Todd, been busy with the holidays and such. I'll catch it before it's out of threaters. I'm not one for Tim Burton, really, so who knows what I'll think. :)
I need to get on my food blog- but haven't done anything post worthly, really. It's something I wanna work on a ton in the new year. The photos are snaps of Sas Christian art. She rules. I suggest picking up her book, or even just checking out her website.
CG- Now, now... always return so fools like myself can later bitch about the release, too. Haha.
I saw this movie, actually, and found it to be quite fascinating, and fairly true to the story, with minimal deviation. Yeah, it was all over the place, but so was Lovecraft. I actually plan to do a film project based on a philisophical exploration of the self and the world, taking hints from the oddly out there cinematography and effects in this strange adaptation of an even stranger story. Yes, I'm gonna have to say the directors should have spent more time organizing their thoughts and possibly getting actors who could actually act(honestly, at least get someone decent for the lead. I could act better than that idiot), but overall for a low budget film I think it turned out pretty sweet.
